The Brush Rinser - A Review (4 of 5 Stars)
I was given a set for review. Many thanks to them.
Is it a novelty item or an indispensable tool for your studio?
I have to say that after using a plain up-cycled glass jar for my brush washing activity while practising my watercolour painting, I thought I was happy. Then came this item, the Brush Rinser. At first glance, it looks like a fun gadget and nothing more than a gimmick.
However, after using it for a while, I realised that this tool has started to grow on me as it does everything as described. The ridges on the reservoir are handy to really clean the bristles and, despite the simple setup, the water flows from the tank and stops when the reservoir is full.
The tank holds a modest 250 ml of water while the lower tank holds about 500 ml of water. The reservoir is designed to clean the brush efficiently and has lips that holds the water in place. However, the entire setup has to be on a flat surface, if not, you’ll be having water flowing without discrimination onto your table and paper.
After using this item for about a week, I find this tool not a gimmick nor an indispensable tool. It’s an interesting tool, probably great for people who paints with water based paints (eg. watercolour, gouache or acrylic) in a small scale. If you’re working in a larger scale, it’s better to stick to your mason jar or water mug.
Pros
Simple setup and mechanisms
Sturdy and durable plastic body
Easy to dismantle and clean
Good design
Medium to small brushes clean easily
Cons
Small tank and reservoir
Only useable on flat surfaces, not ideal for outdoor painting
Not ideal for large brushes
Conclusion
Well, the Brush Rinser may not be for everybody, however, I can see the product working well for people who are working small and looking into keeping their painting space neat and tidy. The small tank may not hold as much water as you’d hope for, but with a retail price of RM 30, I can see this being a nice tool for many indoor hobbyist painters out there who wants a little fun in their workflow.
I give the Brush Rinser a 4 out of 5 Stars.
